Description: Erect annual to 1.3 m high.
Leaves with ligule absent; blade mostly to 12 mm wide, glabrous.
Panicle to 20 cm long, narrow; racemes numerous, mostly to 4 cm long. Spikelets 2 or 3 together on short pedicels, ovate to elliptic, mostly 4–5 mm long, acuminate, cuspidate or shortly awned. Lower glume 45–60 % of spikelet length, acute to acuminate, shortly mucronate, 5–7-nerved; upper equal to spikelet, acuminate to cuspidate, rarely shortly-awned, 7–9-nerved. Lower lemma subequal to spikelet, similar to upper glume, sometimes shortly awned to 3 mm long, 5–7-nerved. Fertile lemma elliptic, c. 3.5–4 mm long, tip scabrous, smooth, shining. Lower palea elliptic, > 80% of lemma length. Upper palea slightly shorter than fertile lemma. Grain c. 2 mm long.
Flowering: in response to rain or flooding.
Distribution and occurrence: Grows in or near watercourses; north from Barringun district.
