Common name: African hosta, Leopard Plant
Drimiopsis maculata Lindl. & Paxton APNI* Description: Perennial with bulbs to 2 cm diam. Plants to 30 cm high.
Leaves with a distinct pseudopetiole 3–16 cm long; blade broad, more or less triangular, 4–12 cm long and 4–5 cm wide, usually with undulate margins, with dark green or purple spots.
Inflorescence spike-like, with flowers all around. Pedicels less than 1 mm long. Perianth 4–5 mm long, not opening widely, appearing constricted at the apex; inner segments narrower than the outer segments, white at first, then turning green.
Distribution and occurrence: Usually in disturbed areas, establishing from dumped garden waste.
