Diplachne fusca (L.) P.Beauv. ex Roem. & Schult. APNI* 
Description: Erect, tussocky annual or perennial to 1.5 m high; culms 1–3-noded.
Leaves with sheath loose; ligule acute or laciniate, 3–8 mm long; blade convolute or flat, 1.5–5 mm wide, minutely scabrous.
Panicle 10–50 cm long, branched, rather dense, branches erect or slightly spreading. Spikelets narrow-elliptic, almost sessile, 6–14-flowered, florets closely overlapping. Glumes 1-nerved, lower narrow-ovate, acute or acuminate, 2.5–3 mm long; upper narrow-oblong, acute or obtuse, mucronulate, 3.5–4.5 mm long. Lemmas narrow-oblong, 3.5–5 mm long, 2-fid and mucronulate or shortly awned, pilose on the lower part of the midrib. Palea ciliate on the nerves.
Flowering: in response to flooding.
Distribution and occurrence: Usually grows in or near water or in depressions.
