Digitaria ischaemum (Schreb.) Schreb. ex Muhl. APNI*
Description: Spreading annual to 0.4 m high.
Leaves with sheath glabrous or sparingly puberulous; ligule 1–2.5 mm long; blade 3–5 mm wide.
Racemes 2–5, c. 3–7 cm long, the spikelets mostly in triplets at least below, on unequal pedicels. Spikelets 2–2.5 mm long, pubescent with somewhat crinkled hairs some of which are irregularly expanded near the apex and most ± recurved or loosely coiled at the tip (seen under high magnification). Lower glume a minute hyaline rim or absent; upper slightly shorter and narrower than the spikelet, 3-nerved, rather densely and shortly pubescent between the nerves and along the margins. Sterile lemma equalling the spikelet, 5-nerved, usually glabrous between the median nerves, pubescent between the outer nerves and along the margins. Fertile lemma c. as long as the spikelet.along the margins. Fertile lemma c. as long as the spikelet.
Flowering: summer.
Distribution and occurrence: Grows in disturbed open habitats. Native of temp. regions.
