Description: Perennial herb to 2 m high, tufted, solitary; tufts < 10 cm diam. at base; roots fleshy-fibrous.
Leaves to 90 cm long; sheath conduplicate, ± completely occluded; blade 8–38 mm wide.
Inflorescence exceeding foliage; cymules expanded, 2–8-flowered; perianth mid blue to dark violet; outer tepals 7–10.5 mm long, 5-veined; inner tepals 7–9.5 mm long, 5- (rarely 7-) veined. Stamens with filament swellings 0.9–1.8 mm long, yellow; anthers brown-yellow to deep blue.
Berry 5–8 mm long.
Flowering: spring.
Distribution and occurrence: In the Sydney Basin, from the northern end of Wollemi National Park south to the Bundanoon area. extending east - west from sandstone areas in Sydney to the western edge of the Blue Mountains. Grows in sclerophyll forest to c. 1000 m alt., on sandy soils.
