Description: Perennial herb to 0.8 m high, tufted, solitary; tufts to 20 cm diam.
at base; roots fleshy-fibrous.
Leaves to 70 cm long; sheath on lower surface keeled, less than half occluded; blade 6–18 mm wide. Inflorescence exceeding foliage; cymules expanded, 5–15-flowered. Perianth mid to dark blue; outer tepals 7.5–9.5 mm long, 5–9-veined; inner tepals 7–8.5 mm long, 3–5-veined. Stamens with filament swellings 1.3–2 mm long, orange-yellow; anthers pale yellow.
Berry 6–8 mm long.
Flowering: spring–summer.
Distribution and occurrence: Coast north from Bermagui. Grows in maritime habitats on sandy soils.

Often grows near the more slender, mat-forming D. congesta.
