Deyeuxia frigida F.Muell. ex Benth. APNI*
Description: Rather stout perennial to 1.5 m high.
Leaves with ligule membranous, obtuse, jagged, often laciniate, 1–3 mm long; blade to 6 mm wide, scabrous.
Panicle 8–30 cm long, loose, laxly spreading, with clustered, 2–4-nate branches bare and undivided at the base. Spikelets 4–5.5 mm long, laterally compressed. Glumes very unequal, lower 1-nerved, 3–4 mm long; upper 1–3-nerved, 3–5.5 mm long. Lemma 3–4.5 mm long, slightly shorter than upper glume, very narrow-truncate, obscurely toothed at the apex, densely scaberulous, 4-nerved above the middle, with a dorsal awn attached about the middle; awn exserted, geniculate, twisted in the lower part, about as long as the lemma and much exceeding it; callus sparsely barbed with short, 0.1–1.2 mm hairs. Palea subequal to lemma.
Flowering: spring–summer.
Distribution and occurrence: Grows in montane forest, alpine woodland and grassland; south from the Brindabella Ra.
