Description: Slender, tufted perennial, usually somewhat viscid.
Culms terete or slightly compressed, smooth or scabrous, with bases sometimes slightly bulbous, 15–25 cm high, 0.8–1.2 mm diam.
Leaves usually curly, not septate-nodulose, three-quarters as long as to equalling culms, to 1.4 mm wide. Inflorescence simple, head-like or with 1–3 branches to 4 cm long; clusters small, dense to loose, subdigitate, globose, to 15 mm diam.; involucral bracts leaf-like, 1 or 2 longer than inflorescence, usually curly. Spikelets flattened, 10–15 per cluster, 7–9 mm long, 2.5–3.5 mm wide in side view, 4–8-flowered; rachilla narrowly winged; glume spacing 1.0–1.7 mm; spikelet falling as unit, or rachilla persistent. Glumes retuse to broad-acute with mucro to 0.1 mm long, with sides 3- or 4-nerved, 2.5–3 mm long, red-brown to dark red-brown. Stamens 3. long, red-brown to dark red-brown. Nut trigonous, narrow-obovoid to narrow-ellipsoid, slightly shorter than glume, 1.6–2.1 mm long, 0.6–0.8 mm diam., pale to dark brown.
Flowering: spring–summer.
Distribution and occurrence: Grows in rock crevices on seasonally slightly swampy rock shelves of volcanic origin; Nandewar Range and rocky outcrops near Boggabri and Kingstown.
