Description: White-woolly herb with a single scape 20–50 cm high; roots thick, spreading.
Leaves mainly basal, oblanceolate to narrow-spathulate, 5–15 cm long, 5–15 mm wide, base slightly tapered; both surfaces and margins silvery-white and woolly.
Compound head globose, 25–45 mm diam., with c. 70–120 partial heads; partial heads with 9–11 florets, main bract minutely glandular, woolly at base and with dark brown scarious margins; scape red-brown, white-woolly. Corollas yellow.
Achenes 1–1.5 mm long; pappus of 12–15 plumose hairs 2.5–5 mm long.
Flowering: summer.
Distribution and occurrence: Grows in grassland in alpine and occasionally subalpine areas; in NSW confined to Kosciusko area.
