Coprosma niphophila Orchard APNI* Synonyms: Coprosma sp. sensu Costin et al. (1979) APNI*
Description: Prostrate shrub; stems matted or trailing to 1 m long, rooting at base and sparsely at nodes, glabrous.
Leaves confined to upper part of short shoots, ovate or obovate to narrow-elliptic, mostly 0.3–0.7 cm long, 1.7–2.5 mm wide, apex obtuse to subacute, lamina thick, glabrous, shining, veins obscure; shortly petiolate; stipules triangular, c. 1 mm long, apex attenuate.
Flowers terminal on erect branchlets, sessile, often incompletely unisexual, both male and female flowers with vestigial or functional parts of the opposite sex. Male flowers with cup-like calyx; corolla obconical to narrowly funnel-shaped, 4–8 mm long, lobes shorter than the tube, ± recurved. Female flowers with corolla cylindrical c. 4 mm long, lobes longer than the tube.
Drupe ovoid, 6–10 mm long, orange-red.
Flowering: chiefly summer.
Distribution and occurrence: Confined to rock ledges and crevices or feldmark in open sites above snowline, in Kosciusko N.P.; rare.
