Cestrum elegans (Brongn. ex Neumann) Schltdl. APNI*
Description: Shrub to 5 m high; branchlets, petioles and inflorescence axes sparsely to densely purple-hairy.
Leaves lanceolate, sometimes ovate, 7–11.5 cm long, 2.5–5.5 cm wide, lamina pubescent, soon glabrescent (except on the main veins); petiole 0.5–1.5 cm long.
Inflorescences congested terminal panicles of subspicate racemes; flowers numerous, pedicels 0–0.5 mm long. Calyx 4.5–6 mm long, tube ± glabrous, lobes triangular, to 1.5 mm long. Corolla pink-red to pink-purple; tube ± glabrous, 15–23 mm long, much narrower than the calyx at the base, expanded to c. 5 mm diam. at apex. Staminal filaments 9–12 mm long, swollen and glabrous at base; anthers 1–1.5 mm long.
Berry globose, 8–13 mm diam., dull red.
Flowering: chiefly winter–spring.
Distribution and occurrence: Uncommon garden escape recorded from Wollongong district, the Southern Highlands and at Deervale on the North Coast. Native of Mexico. Disturbed rainforest margins on basalt.

Some plants that are sparingly hairy on the tubular parts of the calyx and corolla may key to this species but represent the progeny of garden hybrids based on C. fasciculatum.
