Centranthus macrosiphon Boiss. APNI* Description: Annual herb to 50 cm high, glabrous, younger leaves glaucous.
Lower stem leaves ovate to broadly elliptical, 3–15 cm long, 1–3 cm wide, margins lobed, sometimes toothed; leaves becoming pinnatifid below the inflorescence; petiolate to sessile and stem-clasping.
Terminal thyrses often divided into several cymose part-inflorescences with numerous sessile flowers. Calyx toothed, teeth incurved in flower, spreading and feather-like in fruit. Corolla pink to rose-red, rarely white; tube slender, 6–8 mm long, basal spur c. 1 mm long; lobes 3–4 mm long.
Fruit glabrous, rarely hirsute.
Flowering: Flowers mainly August–December
Distribution and occurrence: Cultivated as an ornamental, sometimes naturalised, preferring calcareous soils.
