Calotis sp. Zara (E.Officer s.n. NSW14995) NSW Herbarium APNI* Description: Erect herb, to 45 cm high.
Distribution and occurrence: Grows in sandy soils. Known from Wanganella to Moulamein, southwest of Hay.
NSW subdivisions: SWP
These plants did form part of P.S. Short's concept of Calotis moorei, based on the collection from 'Zara' by Miss E. Officer in December 1913, however, more recent collections between Booroorban, Wanganella and Moulamein, have shown that these plants are consistent, and are clearly distinct from C. moorei. It differs from C. moorei most notably in the achenes, which lack the strongly flared awn base, and also lack the prominent longitudinal ridges which are often obvious on the fused awn base. It shares the tuberculate surface on each face of the body and are similarly sized.
