Description: Spreading, submerged or mat-like, semi-aquatic glabrous herb.
Leaves not dimorphic, variable, mostly linear-spathulate, spathulate or obovate, 2–25 mm long, 1–6 mm wide, but mostly c. 10 mm long and 5 mm wide, 3–7-veined.
Flowers usually paired with one of each sex but sometimes solitary; bracts present. Stamens c. twice as long as the fruit.
Fruit subsessile, usually slightly longer than broad, c. 1.5–2 mm wide, with a prominent wing.
Distribution and occurrence: as a submerged aquatic or on damp ground; widespread, coastal districts west to Mootwingee.
