Bulbostylis densa (Wall.) Hand.-Mazz. APNI*
Description: Slender tufted annual, mostly glabrous.
Culms compressed, glabrous, smooth, 5–40 cm high, 0.2–0.4 mm diam.
Leaves much shorter than culms, 0.2–0.3 mm wide. Inflorescence simple or subcompound, to 5 cm long, with 1-many solitary spikelets on branches to 2 cm long; involucral bracts usually very short, glume-like, or the lowest 1 or 2 leaf-like, sometimes to 7 cm long. Spikelets solitary, oblong-ovoid, acute, 3–6 mm long, 1.7–2 mm diam. Glumes acute, muticous, strongly keeled, 1.7–2 mm long, with ciliolate or glabrous margins, red-brown to very dark red-brown. Stamens 2; anthers 0.2–0.3 mm long. Style 3-fid.
Nut triquetrous, obovoid to broad-obovoid, 0.7–0.9 mm long, 0.5–0.8 mm diam., minutely verruculose, straw-coloured to greyish; epidermal cells isodiametric to oblong.
Flowering: spring–summer.
Distribution and occurrence: Scattered, usually in rocky sites (hillsides or streams); north from Bendemeer, east to Dorrigo area.
