Brachyscome abercrombiensis P.S.Short APNI* Description: Perennial herb with weakly ascending branches to at least 35 cm long; stalked, bi- or basally multiseriate glandular hairs with whitish stalks found throughout, mostly scattered to moderately dense.
Leaves basal and cauline, alternate, thin, basal and some mid-cauline leaves tapering to a distinct petiole-like bases, up to 30 mm long; upper leaves lacking petiole-like bases, basal and lower cauline leaves mostly spathulate or linear-oblanceolate, 18–80 mm long, 5–20 mm wide, with 2–11 teeth or lobes; upper leaves only or mostly entire.
Flowerhead subconical, glabrous: involucre 4.5–6.5 mm diam.; bracts 16–18, in 2 rows of similar length, obovate to oblanceolate 1.9–2.9 mm long herbaceous with hyaline margins. Ray florets 20–32, 6.7–7.6 mm long, veins 4 or 5 , entire or minutely 2- or 3-toothed, white or blue. Disc florets 60–70, 1.4–1.7 mm long, 5-lobed, yellow.
Achenes flat, obovate, straight or slightly curved, 1.40–1.55 mm long carpodpodium narrow, whitish, distinct from body; pappus a crown of whitish uneven bristles.
Flowering: Flowering and fruiting in September, October and March.
Distribution and occurrence: Only known from a small region between Abercrombie Caves and Reids Flat, NSW. From TYPE collection only: In skeletal loam over granite in a sclerophyll forest dominated by Eucalyptus goniocalyx, E. polyanthemos, Callitris enderlicheri and Leptospermum brevipes.
