Bidens aurea (Aiton) Sherff APNI* Description: Erect annual or perennial herb 50–15- cm high.
Leaves petiolate, mainly simple, lanceolate to linear-lanceolate, 8–22 cm long, toothed or entire; if divided leaves then deltate in shape, pinnate or bipinnate.
Flower heads hemispherical, 25 mm diam. including the rays; outer involucral bracts linear, shorter than the florets, margins ciliate; inner bracts ovate to lanceolate, with yellow margins. Ray florets 5 or 6, golden yellow.
Achenes linear-cuneate 4–7 mm long, more or less compressed, glabrous or sparsely hairy, dark brown to black. Pappus awns 2, 1.5–4 mm long.
Flowering: Flowers and fruits April to May.
Distribution and occurrence: Native from southern USA to Central America. Naturalised in Europe. In Australia naturalised near Sydney, NSW, on damp weedy roadsides.

clumps increase in size from underground rhizomes, and from mature stems becoing prostrate, rooting at the nodes and generating new erect vegitative shoots.
