Description: Dioecious perennial herb, tufted.
Culms erect, slender, c. 15–40 cm high, 0.6–0.8 mm diam. Sheaths appressed, few short hairs at apex, 6.5–10.5 mm long, apex acute; lamina small, linear to subulate, to 20 mm long.
Spikelets solitary and terminal or few (up to 6) in a loose raceme, up to c. 35 mm long. Male spikelets globose, c. 4–6 mm long, c. 15–45 flowers. Male tepals 6; stamens 3; pistillode present. Female spikelets narrower and have fewer flowers per spikelet, ellipsoid, c. 4.5–6.5 mm long, c. 5–18 flowers. Female tepals 4; staminodes 2.
Distribution and occurrence: in wet or damp sandy peat; coastal districts north from Red Rock.
