Description: Short-lived perennial shrub to c. 75 cm high, monoecious.
Leaves broad-elliptic to ovate, to c. 40 mm long, margins sinuate; sessile or subsessile.
Inflorescences spike-like or reduced to axillary clusters. Fruiting bracteoles triangular, 8–15 mm long; appendages usually absent, occasionally small tooth-like appendages near the base.
Distribution and occurrence: Grows on sandy or saline areas in many western vegetation types.
