Aristida psammophila Henrard APNI*
Description: Tufted perennial to 1.2 m high; culms terete or compressed, sparsely branched, scaberulous to smooth.
Leaves with sheath usually scabrous; ligule c. 0.3 mm long; blade conduplicate or convolute, usually scabrous, 0.5–1.3 mm wide.
Panicle ± spike-like in the upper part, usually interrupted below, 10–16 mm long, lower branches often divaricate to horizontal. Glumes lanceolate, long-acuminate, 7–13 mm long. Lemma punctulate, 7–10.5 mm long, scaberulous on the midnerve upwards, otherwise smooth, pale brown; column of 1–3 spirals, 1.5–3 mm long; awns filiform, stiff, divaricate to almost horizontal, 18–25 mm long.
Flowering: summer.
Distribution and occurrence: Grows in woodland on poor, often sandy, soils.
