Aotus subspinescens (Benth.) Crisp APNI* 
Description: A variable shrub to 0.6 m high, branches short, often ending in short spines; stems with hairs usually short and curved.
Leaves in whorls of 3 or more, opposite or alternate, narrow-linear, mostly 5–10 mm long, 1 mm wide, margins revolute, upper surface becoming glabrous, lower surface with scattered long hairs; petiole 1 mm long.
Flowers 1 or 2 in upper leaf axils; bracts c. 1 mm long; pedicels 2–3 mm long. Calyx 4 mm long, villous; teeth acute. Corolla 5–10 mm long; standard yellow and red; keel crimson to purple.
Pod ovoid, 4–6 mm long, turgid, villous.
Flowering: August–October
Distribution and occurrence: Grows in mallee communities on sandy dune soils; not common, confined to the Pooncarie-Buronga district.
