Description: Erect annual to 0.2 m high; culms slender, 3-noded.
Leaves with sheath smooth; ligule to 3 mm long, acute; blade convolute, grooved, 0.5 mm wide, glabrous.
Panicle spike-like, narrow, with short erect branches; pedicels shorter than spikelets. Spikelets crowded, c. 3 mm long. Glumes lanceolate, scabridulous on the keel, shining. Lemmas subequal to slightly shorter than the glumes, scabridulous towards the apex, with short hairs at the base; awn exserted, 1–1.5 mm long.
Flowering: spring.
Distribution and occurrence: Naturalized on sandy soils in Sydney. Native of Eur.
