Description: Erect or geniculately ascending, quite robust, stoloniferous perennial to 0.6 m high; culms smooth, c. 3–6-noded.
Leaves with sheath striate to shallowly grooved, becoming loose in the upper part; ligule truncate, 2–3 mm long; blade flat, striate to shallowly grooved, acute to acuminate, 2–10 mm wide.
Panicle dense, oblong, ovate or obovate, to 15 cm long. Disarticulation below the glumes, the spikelets falling whole, 2–3 mm long. Glumes obtuse. Lemma finely toothed, c. 1 mm long, unawned.
Flowering: spring–summer.
Distribution and occurrence: Found near or in water. Native of Medit region.
