Acroceras macrum Stapf APNI* Description: Rhizomatous decumbent perennials to c. 60 cm tall.
Leaves with ligule reduced to a minutely hairy rim; blade glabrous or hairy, to c. 10 mm wide, expanded, rounded or almost cordate at base, tapering to a sharp point.
Inflorescence narrow, to c. 20 cm long, of 2–5 slender spike-like racemes up to 8 cm long scattered along a central axis, the lower racemes 5–9 cm apart. Spikelets 4–5 mm long, awnless, glabrous, with conspicuous rounded appendages at the laterally compressed apex of the glumes and lemmas. Lower glume >50% as long as the spikelet, 3-nerved; upper glume 5-nerved.
Distribution and occurrence: Planted in wet areas.
