Name is from the Greek 'nysso' (to prick or pierce) and 'phyllon' (a leaf), which refers to the stiff and sharp-pointed phyllodes in this species. Acacia nyssophylla is similar to A. colletioides, which has about 8 veins in the phyllodes.
