Description: Sharp stiff and appressed hairs on leaves and stems, or hairs loose and spreading on stems.
Leaves conduplicate.
Hairs on involucral bracts similar to those on stems, and with minute glandular hairs.
Achenes with short, dense appressed hairs or glabrous on lower portion, spreading above. 5–7 ribs.
Flowering: Flowering mostly October to March.
Distribution and occurrence: Grows in a variety of habitats, widespread.
NSW subdivisions: NC, CC, SC, NT, CT, ST, NWS, CWS, SWS, NWP, SWP, NFWP, SFWP
Other Australian states: Vic. Tas. S.A.
2 forms of this variety were formerly described. Those with achenes and heads in the smaller size range and with a more easterly range were known as f. minor.Those with somewhat larger achenes and heads, and with a more westerly distribution were f. cuneata.
