Common name: Fairy Apron
Utricularia dichotoma subsp. monanthos (Hook.f.) R.W.Jobson APNI* Description: Terrestrial perennial herb. Stolons few, capillary, branched. Rhizoids few, capillary, simple.
Leaves numerous, rosulate and from stolon nodes, petiolate, linear to narrowly elliptic, up to 30 mm long, 1.1 mm wide, with a single nerve; apex rounded or acute.
Inflorescences solitary, erect; flowers 1 or 2; peduncle 10–50 mm long; bracts and bracteoles basifixed, slightly gibbous at the base; pedicels erect, 2–4 mm long. Calyx lobes unequal; upper lobe oblong or elliptic, c. 3 mm long; lower lobe smaller, ovate with apex bifid. Corolla 6–10 mm long, violet usually with 3 yellow ridges basally; upper lip obovate, apex emarginate; lower lip transversely elliptic, entire or slightly 3-lobed; spur broadly conical, with apex obtuse, shorter than the lower lip.
Capsule globose, c. 2.6 mm long. Seeds obovoid, c. 0.25 mm long.
Flowering: December–March.
Distribution and occurrence: Scattered in alpine regions of New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania. Occupies boggy meadows and creeks at high and sometimes low elevations.

Other Australian states: Tas. Vic.
Previously thought to occur in New Zealand. However, Jobson & Baleeiro (2020) show that all U. dichotoma accessions from New Zealand, regardless of flower number, corolla colour, or stature, comprise a clade of subsp. novae-zelandiae that is sister to Australian subsp. monanthos.
