Common name: Fairy Apron
Utricularia dichotoma subsp. dichotoma Labill. APNI* Description: Terrestrial perennial herb. Stolons numerous, branched. Rhizoids numerous, simple.
Leaves few from base and at stolon nodes, 1–3 veins, linear to spatulate, 3–10 mm long, 2–4 mm wide; apex rounded.
Inflorescences solitary, erect; peduncle 60–350 mm long; bracts and bracteoles broadly ovate, acute, basal spur usually quadrate. Corolla 8–15 mm long, violet with 2 or 3 prominent yellow ridges basally; upper lip obovate, compressed near the middle; apex entire, rounded or truncate; lower lip semi-circular to depressed obovate; spur cylindrical with apex rounded, curved, shorter than the lower lip.
Capsule globose, c. 5 mm long.
Flowering: Mostly August–April.
Distribution and occurrence: Widespread mostly at higher elevations in alpine regions of western Tasmania, Victoria and New South Wales; occasionally at low elevations in coastal regions. Found in peaty bogs and creeks in alpine meadows and boggy swamps in sandy heathland.
