Centipeda crateriformis subsp. crateriformis N.G.Walsh APNI* Description: Annual to 20 cm high, 30 cm in diameter.
Leaves 3–12 mm long, 2–6 mm wide.
Flower heads 3.5–7 mm diameter, involucral bracts 1.5–4 mm long, entire or with minutely ruminate membranous margins; female (outer) florets c. 100–200 in 3–5 rows, bisexual florets 7–12.
Fruiting heads hard, remaining intact until long after the stems senesce. Achenes linear (5 x longer than wide) 1.4–2.5 mm long, smooth or rarely scabridulous along ribs, 4- or 5-angled with prominent ribs at each of the angles.
Distribution and occurrence: Endemic to Australia. Occurs in all mainland States. Locally common in semi-arid areas between 23 and 35 degrees south. Occurs mostly on clayey soils of shallow, seasonally inundated lakes and depressions in claypans.
