Common name: Rough Maidenhair

Adiantum hispidulum var. hispidulum Sw. APNI*

Description: Rhizome short-creeping, covered with dark brown scales; rootlets lacking bulbils.

Fronds mostly 15–50 cm high, palmately or dichotomously divided; stipe black, stout, slightly rough to scabrous, with antrorse red-brown hairs; pinnae tough, pale to dark green; pinnules 8–14 mm long, asymmetric (except near base of pinna) and very shortly stalked with uppermost segments sessile, bearing sparse minute, soft white hairs less than 0.5 mm long.

Sori small, 1–20 per pinnule, close together along outer and upper margins.
