Description: Shrubby or arborescent plants, with or without erect woody stems.
Leaves fleshy, long-lived, spine-tipped.
Inflorescence a panicle or raceme, on a terminal scape. Flowers bisexual, ± pendent. Tepals ± spreading, free or united basally. Stamens 6. Ovary superior, 3-locular or imperfectly 6-locular; style stout; stigma ± globose or 3-lobed.
Fruit a capsule; seeds obovoid or flattened.
Distribution and occurrence: World: c. 40 species, America. Australia: 1 species (naturalized).
Yuccahas commonly been included in the segregate family Agavaceae.
