Description: Erect shrub; branchlets hoary-pubescent; leaf scars crescent-shaped.
Leaves crowded, non-sheathing, ovate, subulate, concolorous, usually glabrous, sessile or subsessile, finely striate-veined below.
Flowers axillary, solitary, sessile, crowded at the branch tips, forming a long leafy inflorescence; bracts numerous, imbricate, persistent, grading in size to sepals. Sepals 5, ovate, acute, glabrous but with ciliate margins, often white. Corolla tube usually exceeding the sepals, cylindrical, glabrous; lobes widely spreading, glabrous, imbricate and contorted in bud. Stamens inserted below ovary, or partly fused to corolla; filaments terete, free; anthers hidden in throat. Nectary of narrow-acuminate scales. Ovary 5-locular with a few ovules per loculus; placentation axile; style inserted in depression in ovary, pubescent; stigma simple, truncate.
Fruit a loculicidal capsule.
