Description: Annual woolly herbs, often with glandular hairs.
Leaves mostly cauline, alternate, sessile, entire, recurved [or flat].
Heads in terminal leafy corymbs, woolly at the base, pedicellate to subsessile; involucral bracts in many series, herbaceous or stiff at the base, the tips papery, spreading, yellow to orange-red, the outer ovate to lanceolate, the inner with a green or brown linear claw at the base and an ovate to lanceolate, papery lamina; receptacle flat, naked, pitted. Florets all alike, narrowly funnel-shaped, bisexual, fertile, 5-merous, yellow. Anthers tailed at the base, with lanceolate terminal appendages.
Achenes papillose, compressed with a linear apical extension (beak); pappus a single row of white or yellow, barbellate or plumose bristles.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 7 species, endemic Australia. Australia: all mainland States except Qld.
