Description: Annual herbs with indumentum of simple rigid non-glandular hairs; stems terete.
Leaves alternate, basal and cauline, pinnately divided or toothed; cauline ones stem-clasping.
Heads long-pedunculate, solitary or few in a loosely branched terminal cymose inflorescence; heads urceolate, 1-seriate. Bracts 8, lanceolate, fused at base, herbaceous with hyaline margins, valvate; receptacle pitted, bristly. All florets bisexual, ligulate. Ligules linear, 5-toothed, yellow. Anthers sagittate at base. Style branches linear.
Achenes flattened, curved, with large beak swollen at base; pappus not persistent, 1-seriate, of plumose bristles fused at base.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 2 species, Mediterranean region & southern Europe. Australia: 2 species (naturalized), N.S.W., Vic., Tas., S.A., W.A.
