Description: Shrubs or erect perennial herbs, usually densely hairy with stellate hairs.
Flowers solitary or clustered in short axillary or terminal inflorescences. Epicalyx 5-lobed. Calyx 5-lobed. Staminal tube c. as long as the petals, bare below. Carpels 5, each 1-ovulate; styles 10–15, fused at base.
Fruit a schizocarp breaking into 5 dehiscent mericarps.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 3–6 species, pantropical regions. Australia: 3 species (2 species native), Qld, N.S.W., N.T.
