Description: Deciduous trees or shrubs, monoecious or sometimes dioecious, glabrous, with white latex.
Leaves alternate or near-opposite, simple; lamina entire [or serrate], with venation pinnate; petiole with 1 or 2 glands present at apex; stipules present.
Inflorescences terminal or axillary, spike-like or raceme-like thyrses, sometimes branched, bisexual (pistillate flowers proximal, staminate flowers distal) or staminate; bracts with 2 glands at base.
Fruit a globose capsule, usually 3-celled. Seeds ecarunculate, usually covered by waxy aril.
Distribution and occurrence: Native to Asia. World: 3 species; Australia: 1 species naturalised in N.S.W. and Qld.
