Description: Trees, monoecious; new growth hairy with simple hairs.
Leaves alternate, paripinnate; leaflets alternate or opposite, margins entire or crenate-toothed; domatia usually present.
Inflorescences axillary, racemose or paniculate. Flowers unisexual. Calyx cupular, 5-lobed. Petals 5, shortly-clawed, scales large, crested. Disc annular. Stamens 8. Ovary usually 2- or 3-locular; ovules 1 per loculus.
Fruit a capsule, loculicidally dehiscent; valves fleshy, drying thick, glabrous without, hairy within; aril basal, 2-lobed.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 8 species, Australia, New Guinea. Australia: 6 species (5 species endemic), Qld., N.S.W.
