Description: Robust tufted perennials with erect culms.
Leaves with ligule a rim of short hairs; blade flat, narrow, rough.
Inflorescence paniculate, narrow.
Spikelets almost sessile, rachilla disarticulating above the glumes and between the lemmas; florets usually 3, bisexual. Glumes unequal, narrow, acute, 1-nerved. Lemmas longer than the glumes, 1-nerved, keeled, glabrous. Palea about half the length of the lemma, acute, 2-nerved, 2-keeled.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 1 species, endemic Australia. Australia: 1 species, endemic.
Very similar to both Eragrostis and Sporobolus and sometimes included in 1 or the other by different authors. Derivation: named after A. Thellung.
