Description: Shrubs or small trees, sometimes subscandent.
Leaves [simple] or imparipinnate, opposite or in whorls of 3, tendrils absent; leaflets toothed.
Inflorescences terminal racemes or more often raceme-like thyrses. Calyx cup-shaped, shallowly 5-lobed. Corolla yellow or orange to scarlet; tube funnel-shaped, ± straight or curved; lobes imbricate. Stamens 4, exserted from corolla tube.
Fruit an linear-oblong capsule; seeds winged all round.
Distribution and occurrence: World: c. 14 species, tropical America. Australia: 3 species (naturalised), Qld, N.S.W., Vic., S.A., W.A.
