Description: Annual or perennial herbs or shrubs, hairy and glandular.
Leaves cauline, alternate, entire to toothed, sessile.
Heads solitary, scattered or in loose terminal clusters; involucral bracts imbricate in several series, recurved on drying, outermost herbaceous, innermost scarious, narrower; receptacle naked, flat. Outer disc florets female, fertile, tubular, ligulate or tube regularly or irregularly lobed; inner disc florets bisexual, fertile, tubular, 4–5-toothed. Anthers tailed. Style branches filiform, papillose.
Achenes terete, hairy; pappus of numerous barbed or feathery bristles, in 1–3 series, white or yellowish.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 8 species, endemic Australia. Australia: all mainland States except Vic.
