Description: Mostly trees with milky latex; usually dioecious.
Leaves usually scabrous on at least one surface.
Flowers 4-merous, in spikes. Male flowers with stamen filaments inflexed in bud. Female flowers with perianth segments decussate, free or ± fused; ovary superior.
Fruit drupaceous, topped by bifid style.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 22 species, Madagascar & South-East Asia to Australia. Australia: 2 species, Qld, N.S.W.
