Description: Trees.
Leaves entire, lobed [or palmately compound].
Flowers in racemes or panicles. Flowers bisexual or unisexual with female flowers terminal and opening before males. Calyx 4-lobed, fused at the tips. Petals absent. Stamens 10–15, subsessile on an androgynophore. Carpels 4, free, with 10–15 staminodes clustered at their base; styles fused.
Follicles ± sessile; seeds 2–8.
