Description: Perennial herbs with prostrate woody stems rooting at nodes, glabrous.
Leaves attenuate towards base, sessile.
Flowers in condensed axillary racemes or solitary in leaf axils; stalks not articulate, with bracteoles. Sepals 5, free. Corolla reddish brown outside, usually whitish inside; lobes equal; without wings or auricles. Stamens free from each other, epigynous. Ovary inferior, 2-locular; indusium ± horizontal; ovules numerous, arranged in 2 rows in each locule.
Fruit fleshy, indehiscent; seeds biconvex with swollen mucilaginous wing, caruncle absent.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 2 species, Australia, New Zealand & Chile. Australia: 2 species (native), Vic., Tas., S.A., W.A.
