Description: Trees, usually glabrous, usually monoecious.
Leaves alternate, paripinnate; leaflets ± opposite, mostly drying yellowish green, venation prominent, margins entire.
Inflorescences axillary or terminal, thyrsoid or paniculate. Flowers mostly unisexual. Calyx 5-lobed, 2-seriate, outer lobes smaller than inner pair. Petals 5, scales often present, crests absent. Stamens 7 or 8, filaments hairy. Disc annular. Ovary mostly 3-locular; ovule 1 per loculus.
Fruit a capsule, cordate to ± globose, 3- or 2-locular, loculicidally dehiscent; seeds ellipsoid, aril basal.
Distribution and occurrence: World: c. 14 species, Philipp., Borneo, New Guinea, Australia. Australia: 4 species (endemic), Qld, N.S.W.
