Description: Trees to c. 30 m high.
Leaves leathery; stipules lanceolate, reddish.
Inflorescences dichotomously or trichotomously branched cymes; bracteoles present, forming a cup just below the flower. Calyx lobes 4, scarcely united at the base, leathery, reflexed in fruit. Corolla lobes 4, lanceolate. Stamens usually 8 or 12. Ovary half-inferior, 2-locular.
Fruit ovoid to pyriform; fertile seeds 1 per fruit; viviparous.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 8 or 9 species, tropical regions. Australia: 4 species (native), Qld, N.S.W., N.T., W.A.
