Description: Evergreen shrubs without spines.
Leaves simple, toothed or entire; shortly petiolate.
Inflorescence racemose or paniculate from scaly terminal buds. Sepals 5, erect or reflexed. Petals 5. Stamens 15–20. Carpels 2 or 3, fused at the base, ovary inferior.
Fruit a drupe-like pome, with 1 or 2 seeds.
Distribution and occurrence: World: c. 15 species, Japan, China. Australia: 1 species (naturalized).
