Description: Floating aquatic herb.
Leaves simple, alternate, congested; petiole much shortened.
Inflorescence much reduced. Spathe tubular in lower part, opening above. Spadix partly fused to spathe. Female zone reduced to a single naked pistil. Male zone free. Appendix absent. Tepals absent.
Fruit a few–many-seeded berry.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 1 species, pantropical with some subtropical extensions. Australia: 1 sp (native of northern Australia)
