Description: Shrubs or trees, twigs with 'bootlace' bark.
Leaves opposite, petiolate.
Flowers clustered in terminal or lateral sessile or pedunculate heads, surrounded by an involucre of 4 bracts shorter than the hypanthium. Hypanthium tubular. Sepals mostly 4. Petals absent. Stamens twice as many as the sepals, in 2 rows. Ovary 2-locular, style terminal, elongated.
Fruit a drupe.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 20 species, Malesia, Pacific islands. Australia: 4 species (endemic), Qld, N.S.W.
