Description: Perennial or biennial herbs usually with a taproot.
Leaves pinnate or rarely simple; leaflets broad, toothed to deeply lobed; petiole sheathing.
Inflorescence terminal and axillary, a compound umbel; rays few; bracts and bracteoles 1 or 2, or absent; pedicels slender, spreading to ascending. Flowers bisexual, yellow or red. Sepals inconspicuous or absent. Petals with inrolled apex. Stylopodium depressed-conical.
Fruit ellipsoid to obovate, dorsally flattened; carpophore split to base; mericarps with lateral ribs winged, others slender.
Distribution and occurrence: World: c. 15 species, northern temperate Eurasia. Australia: 1 species (naturalized).
