Description: Woody climbers, tendrils usually several-branched and with adhesive discs at apices.
Leaves palmately compound [or simple and lobed]; leaflets usually 3 or 5. Cymes axillary or leaf-opposed, compound, long-peduncled.
Flowers mostly bisexual, 5-merous. Calyx cupular, shortly toothed, usually persistent in fruit. Petals free. Disc absent. Ovary 2-locular, each loculus with 2 ovules.
Berry small, 1–4-seeded.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 15 species, Asia, America. Australia: 1 species (naturalized).
